Yesterday, Ford announced that it is continuing its support of The Salvation Army by donating a customized Ford Transit van to the emergency response teams in Southeast Michigan. The van will operate as a disaster response unit in service of the Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division Emergency Disaster Services’ canteen fleet.
The volunteer disaster services team responds to emergency situations in support of local authorities. The provide food, beverages, blankets, clothing, temporary shelter, communications support, emergency lighting, and clean-up kits to both victims and response personnel. With 487 cubic feet of cargo space, the Ford Transit van comes equipped with several custom installed appliances. It also features a tall ceiling to allow for people to stand fully upright, and its sleek design provides for easier maneuverability in tight situations.
“Assisting with disaster relief is an important part of our mission to serve the communities where we live and work,” said Janet Lawson, director, Ford Motor Company Fund, the philanthropic arm of Ford. “The flexibility of the Ford Transit van makes it a great fit for The Salvation Army’s emergency response fleet.”
